Hi All,
I have an old PC which is having some problem.Config is as follows:

Proc:C2D E6550
Mobo:XFX n50i Ultra
RAM: DDR2 2GB
Graphics:XFX 9600GT.
Monitor: Dell 1920 Se
Since last 2 months PC is showing below issue.
If i switch on no display is coming sometime.But i can here the HDD working.No Beep sounds.Then after sometime if i try it again it will boot up and works like a charm (It feels like it has a mind of it's own!!!!).Sometime during working system suddenly freezes and i will have to do hard re-boot and sometime it will show 1st problem again.These frequent failure has corrupted my HDD also.I believe the issue is my Mobo and want to change my mobo.Please suggest a new mobo without changing other stuff.Also i plan to buy a new graphics card for which i have selected HIS 6870 ICEQ Turbo.My total budget combined would be 20 K Max.Please suggest.

The issue is similar to like what I have faced and I too had same motherboard and grfx card :D, the XFX 650i Ultra and XFX 9600GT :p, however to get sure I gave the motherboard for repair to local shop and from there I was sure it was my motherboard for sure..

Take a look at this thread, *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/cpu-motherboards/161328-need-advice-new-lga-775-motherboard.html

I had Corsiar XMS2 (2x2) 4GB DDR2 hence I selected Rs. 3200/- LGA775 based G41 Combo board of Gigabyte. It had a lot of legacy support, like PATA port for my older DVD RW and DDR2 support while giving me the chance to upgrade to DDR3 later with combo RAM support :D, infact which I did, *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/cpu-mothe...dr3-1600-mhz-ddr2-swap-without-os-format.html

So you may chose G41 board but only issue with this chipset is to run DDR3 at 1333 MHz or higher, you will have to over clock your processor meaning you must be having a better cooler..

To run 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM, I had to OC my processor (C2Q Q6600 ~ 2.4GHz) to 3.0 GHz. My advantage was the presence of a 3rd party CPU cooler, ThermalRight Ultra 120 eXtreme :D..

So if planning to run DDR3, you should include a CPU cooler also within your budget :p

Here is my suggestion,

Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2PT Motherboard | Motherboard | Flipkart.com -> Rs. 3.3k
HIS AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6850 GPU 1 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card | Graphics Card | Flipkart.com -> Rs. 10.5k
Corsair VS450 450 Watts PSU | Psu | Flipkart.com -> Rs. 2.5k
G.Skill NT DDR3 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) PC RAM (F3-10600CL9S-4GBNT) | Ram | Flipkart.com -> Rs. 1.3k+1.3k (get 2 of them :p for dual channel)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Cooler | Cooler | Flipkart.com -> Rs. 2.2k

Thanks for the info.I like the Gigabyte Combo board.But i would like to use my current 2 gb ddr2.Infact iam thinking of adding 2 gb more as iam planning to install win7 ultimate or win7 HP.Will that be ok?.Also, i was planning to buy MSI 6850 Cyclone but currently is unavailable.So i was thinking of HIS HD6870 ICEQX version.Can i run these on my current PSU (Corsair vx 450)?

Jackal_79, the problem might be with the PSU. Try to test your system with a good PSU and check the problems are coming or not.

DDR2 seems to be to costlier than DDR3

New DDR2 2GB is even 200 bucks costlier than DDR3 4GB Module :p

Sell the present 2GB (what I actually did with my my 4GB) and buy 4GB + 4GB DDR3 :)

Hence no need to buy Combo, you can select GA G41MT S2PT, i think which I should have done :p

If you presently have Corsair vx450 then I dont think you have to buy another PSU :)

I don't have anyway currently to check with a spare PSU.But my PSU was replaced once before.The problem is there since i bought this system.Last few months it has been acting up really bad.Currently iam using my system (Whenever it decides to behave!!) by using a ubuntu startup disk as my bootloader is corrupted and it won't boot my OS and one of my drives also is corrupted.
