With Vista just out the door, Microsoft is now drawing up plans to deliver its follow-up client operating system by the end of 2009, according to the executive in charge of building the product's core components.

That would be a much faster turn-around than Vista, which shipped more than five years after Windows XP, but Vista was exceptional, said Ben Fathi, corporate vice president of development with Microsoft's Windows Core Operating System Division this week at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.

well...it's 2007 already, & Vista will take atleast this full year to go mainstream with support for Hardware & Software, XP will still be supported anyway....

in case you don't have the required hardware (thats the only reason i could find), you better by-pass Vista at all, XP does the job right now. If there are Vista specific features that you need, then only go for it like DirectX 10

Hell Sucks!!!
Yeah... although Vista is complete now bt it has a compatibility with a lots of programs and at that place XP is doin its job perfectly, atleast right now.
So it doesnt makes much sense to upgrade to vista other than its swanky new looks

Re: Vista successor "Vienna" planned for late 2009

Again changes in new user interface? They should focus on stability of OS, new features, more security and instead it looks Vienna again would have only cosmetic changes? This will confuse users everytime that where the original options are now...and maybe Vienna would even be more demanding on the Hardware.
