hi guys! i need some urgent help regarding this.

I have a HP Pavilion Desktop PC, which came with pre-loaded OEM Windows XP SP2.
for XP re-installtion purpose, HP has also provided 2 Recovery DVD Disk, which has both XP installation content & neccessary drivers like Motherboard Drivers, in-built PCI Modem....

now my problem lies here, as my m/b does not have PCI-e slots, i've decided to get a new motherboard (intel 965 series) next year & i'll be giving the old m/b to HP Recycle program.

 problem #1 =>if i want to install the XP from the recovery disk on the new M/B, it'll also install the old m/b intel 915g drivers, onto the new m/b, which will/is a big problem.

so now i want to make a NEW XP Installation DVD(s) from the recovery disk that HP provided.

 Problem #2 => i dont know what/which contents to copy from the Recovery Disks, as they also contain the m/b drivers (which i dont need).

 HELP ME GUYS. i dont wanna buy another XP.

i read Nov. edition of Digit, which has a tutorial on to make backup/(98 multiboot) XP Installation Disk. nut i cant make use of that tute. as i dont have clue on what to copy from the disk.

this is DVD 1 contents

1.) Copy following files/folders in a new folder:

I386
WIN51
WIN51IP

2.) Now use nLite to create/modify the Setup CD.
3.) Regarding to the mobo drivers, I don't think that it'll install them automatically on ur new mobo, coz afaik it'll first detect the mobo and will install the appropriate drivers.

From what I have heard, activation of XP in case of preinstalled versions (in the case of companies like HP, Dell etc.) is related to the Bios. Hence there is likely to be problem in activation once you change the Mobo. Even otherwise change in major components like Mobo, Processor etc. are said to cause activation problems.

^^what if i use a friend's Original XP CD to install & use my original XP CD Key (printed on sticker on the CPU cabinet).

this way i'll still be having a legit XP. (wouldn't I ???)

Literally you are correct but practically............
XP generates a unique ID code based on the hardwares in your machine.
Still you can try activation over the toll free phone no. of MS by explaining the situation in which there happened to be hardware changes.

u will not be able to do so because ur XP licence is OEM and it will not work with another XP CD(I had tried it) and it is associated to ur mobo. if u change ur mobo u will not be able to use it. But contact microsoft for details
