I remember reading in digit magazine about making aportable harddisk few months back.

It said that you have buy a IDE harddisk and a hardware and the external casing.

I want to know the cost of th hardware and external casing.

And does it work well?

i have already made lots of them for my friends adn relatives.
A standard 2.5" hdd casing shuld come around 250 bucks
and a 40G 2.5" 5200rpm hdd WOULD SET U BACK BY 2.2K..
THATZ it..
yeah.. it performs extremely well but havrnt dun any benchmark on it.. so wont be able to tell anything about that.. but one that that sud be mentioned is.. its worth a lot more that its cost

It's better to make a portable hard-disk than buy a readymade one. It comes out much cheaper this way. A decent external enclosure should cost between 500-1500 bucks and you just add a hard-disk of whatever capacity you want.

ya, surely make it own u r own,
get a 2.5'' HDD instead of a 3.5'' one............main reason is that a 2.5'' HDD does not require external power, its powered via the USB port, and is also much smaller and lighter....

i want the 2.5" harddisk drive for it because it does not require external bulky power adapters or I am happy with 3.5".
