Which linux version is right to install. Also i am beginner in installing linux. Please guide me about how 2 install it.Where to find the drivers etc.

I tried 2 install linux but its says there is not enough memory 2 run YAST.And what to enter in the swap file box.

What is YAST??

Please guide.

Thanx in advance.

Hi, could you please post your queries in proper section? it helps to maintain the forum clean. Probably you didn't know we have sections other than General Discussions.

You will have to make space on your disk for linux, before entering the installation. Use a partition managing tool to resize existing partitions, such that there is enough free (unpartitioned) space.

As you have just 64 MB RAM, better to try a non Gnome/KDE based distro (or install without either of them). So it might be wise to stay away from Suse/Fedora/Mandrake (though they will run with tweaking)

Maybe you can try Vector Linux, its a small distro based on slackware ... it has a text menu based installation, but if you look through the docs, you shouldn't have trouble.

If you go ahead with the distro you were installing, make a larger swap space (maybe 256MB)

Drivers ... most of your hardware should be detected well, and its drivers will be provided as kernel modules. Normally you won't need to install additional drivers.

The exception is your modem. Being a winmodem, it has low chance of working :(

Yast is Yet Another Setup Tool. It is a graphical tool which manages software, network etc. Since it is graphical it is recommended that you have atleast 128 mb of ram. Otherwise it may not work smoothly. So the only solution is (as ujjwal told) go for a text based linux
