Hello. I am 15 year old student, studying in class 10th. I have a laptop that's utter crap; couldn't even give me 50 fps in CS1.6 due to Intel HD low clock bug. Anyways, Onto the topic. I am in a great dilemma of buying a laptop or assembling a desktop. I know a Desktop will give more performance in all the scenarios for limited budget, while on the other hand, a laptop will give portability.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans. I will be using the PC for browsing, gaming(a lot) mostly CS 1.6,CSCZ, TF2, Dota2, CODBO 2, Battlefield 3, Max Payne 3 and some upcoming games like Watch Dogs at 1600x900+ reolution Medium-High Settings. I will be taking programming in future; so include tat need to. I will also be using some Screen Capture softwares like Camtasia and Source Filmmaker.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans. Budget = 50-53K. Given by my father. I am saving a bit too; currently having 2000-2400 in savings.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans. Maybe.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans. It all comes down to stability. If Windows 8 will be stable, I will get that running otherwise I will be using Win7x64 Professional.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans. 750GB-1TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans. Yes, in case of a desktop. No need in case of a laptop.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans. All things needed except Mouse, Keyboard and Speakers.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans. Pretty soon. Will ask my father to get it during diwali season. If not, then December.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans. Never built a desktop, but I will be building it this time. Don't wanna spend extra 500 on those PC assembling noobs.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans. Living in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. No delivery of FK here, but my family members live in Mumbai too. If I will get good deals, I will surely ask them to buy and get it delivered. Preferring all reputable online IT stores.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans. I have currently finalised two systems, 1 PC and 1 Laptop in the budget.

PC build:
AMD FX6300 @ 7.5K
XFX ATI Radeon HD 7870 2 GB DDR5 Graphics Card @ 17.3K
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) @ 5.1K (Damn! These RAM prices have increased a lot)
WD Blue WD10EZEX 1 TB @ 4.7K
NZXT Gamma 2.4K
MSI 970A-G46 Motherboard
Dell S2240L 21.5 inch LED Backlit LCD Monitor @ 8.9K
Seasonic S12II 520 Watts PSU @ 4.5K

Total = 55.K :( Over shooting the budget. PLease suggest some changes.

The Laptop I have chosen is Samsung NP550P5C-S04IN @ 51-52K. Its specs are:

Intel Core i5 3210m
15.6" 1600x900 Matte Screen
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M Graphics
6GB DDR3 System Memory at 1,600MHz (4GB x 1 + 2GB x 1)
1TB S-ATA II Hard Drive (5,400RPM)
Super Multi Dual Layer
JBL Stereo Speakers (2 watts x 2) with Sub-woofer (5 watts)

Now here comes the question of goin on with Desktop or Laptop. I need a good price-performance ratio. I will be coming in 11th class next year. So, for upcoming 2 years, I won't need mobility much. But I will take IIT as my path; this is where a laptop makes sense.

Please help me. I am open to all your suggestions. :)

P.S If more info is needed, I will surely provide it.

corsair cx500 for 3900 instead of seasonic
buy 1 x 4gb ram for 2.5k now and add one later
buy 7870 xt version for 17.5k
do all this save some cash and play @ 1080p games

BUT if you wanna game just at 720p then why spend so much on gpu instead get a 7790 or a GTX 650 Ti for 10k

you wanna take him cx 500 instead of seasonic s12 ii 520? op, get seasonic s12ii 520 at any cost. the price difference is negligible and worth the extra paid by you.

he meant 1600X900 + ,which means resolutions above 1600X900. also he is purchasing a full hd monitor.

@sam_738844 For the next two years, portability will not be needed because I will be in school only that time. Hence, I won't move here and there. But after that, the scenarios will change a bit because my goal is to be an IITian. Hence, mobility will be needed at that time. I will be keeping the PC for the next 5-6 years.

Also, All my friends think me as a noob because I wanna get a Desktop. They think that a laptop will be a better choice for future, but I don't wanna sacrifice performance.

If circumstances proved unfavourable, and I got a lappy, then will I be able to game properly at 1600x900 with decent settings?

@hitman If I will get a desktop, then surely I will play @ 1080p. There's no sense in getting a 1080p monitor and playing at 900p. :)\

Also, Is there any possibility that the prices of RAM will slash down? Is there any performance difference between 4gb nd 8gb RAM?

Ty for ur replies.

you better settle with a kick-ass PC with 50K+ budget now and then begin to think about a lappy for portability after two years. There is absolutely Zero need for mobility right now when you are at school. I know IITs have pretty awesome hostel facilities, where there lurks clans of gamers with bad-ass desktops for gaming. Portability comes into picture where you have a job to do and have no specific city to settle down, and still need gaming, otherwise there is no point in buying laptop, a 50K laptop wont breath at 1080P with latest or upcoming games.

I'm settling my mind over assembling a PC because I need more performance than mobility. BTW I have 1 ques.

I wanted to swap out the HD 7870 with a Zotac GTX 650ti Boost edition. The former costs about 17.9k whereas the latter costs only about 13.5 K. I have seen a lotta benchmarks and concluded that GTX 650ti would be great as this would balance all my budget problems.

BTW Is there any probabilty that the RAM prices will slash down a bit?? Because those RAM prices are really pinching me a lot. ;)

TY in advance.
