Hi! I am planning to buy a laptop under 45K by this Diwali and I mainly want to use it for college projects, watching movies and a bit of gaming. For that I want a good GPU and an i5 CPU 3rd Generation. Also overall balanced laptop like good touchpad and build quality is welcome too. Also the laptop will be plugged in AC for most of the time and portability is not much of an issue.

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)

Maximum 45K

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?

  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

I'm confused about brands because different people tells me different brands of their preference but I like mostly

Like: Asus, Lenovo, HP, Asus, Sony

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Primarily for multimedia like gaming (2012 games) and movies and engineering projects.

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?

No hardcore preference but matte is always welcome.

6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)

I will go with only Intel 3rd Generation i5 CPU and a good gaming gpu (Nvidia or ATI). M models have higher CPU clock speeds. DDR3 1600MHz support but TDP is high (35W) but U models have lower clock speed, without DDR3 1600MHz support but lower TDP (17W) and I also heard that U series CPU will be replacing all the models in the lineup but I want the most is performance out of my budget. I have made a list which is in order of my preference but other models are welcome too:

1. Asus K55VJ-SX120D 3210M + 635M(2GB) + 750GB HDD + 8GB RAM
2. HP E034TX/E015TX 3230M + 8670(1GB) + 500GB/1TB HDD + 4GB RAM
3. Sony F15218 3337U + 740M(1GB) + 500GB HDD + 4GB RAM
4. Samsung 350V5C-S0B 3210M + 7670M(2GB) + 1TB HDD + 4GB RAM
4. Lenovo G500 3230M + ATI SUN PRO 8570M(2GB) + 500GB HDD + 4GB RAM

Also I considered Lenovo Z500 too but someone told me that since it has a non-removable battery so to try stay way from it.

Non-removable battery should not be an issue in Z500, as u can set the maximum battery charge limit to 80% in the lenovo power management and mitigate the battery wear by a large extent.
Out of all of these Z500 is the clear winner, with Sony and Hp ones close behind

Check these:
HP Pavilion 15-E016TX Laptop (3rd Gen Ci5/ 4GB/ 1TB/ Win8/ 2GB Graph) vs Lenovo Ideapad Z500 (59-380480) Laptop (3rd Gen Ci5/ 4GB/ 1TB/ Win8/ 1GB Graph) vs Sony VAIO Fit 15E F15218SN/W Laptop (3rd Gen Ci5/ 4GB/ 500GB/ Win8/ 1GB Graph): Compare Comput

My opinion: Get Lenovo Z500

problem with Z500 is it has non removable battery. so if your battery goes dead after some time then you will not be able to directly plugin the laptop to AC power. you will have to hand over your laptop to service center and they will view your files and data.

I am thinking of buying HP E015TX but I have heard HP has a history with overheating. Will it be a safe choice also how standard ethernet is there in this model?
