I need to buy a laptop for my dad.

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
Around 50k

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: Sony, HP
b. Dislike: HCL

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Internet, mailing, some office work

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?
Doesn't matter

6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)
Apart from low weight I need long battery life. Also some people have suggested to opt for iPad 3 instead. Please suggest.

No need to buy a tablet. No professional work can be done on tablets. Buy hp or dell. Cheap sony vaios are not reliable. For you the BEST option will be Dell inspiron series.

Dell Inspirons are not light or are too expensive (for thin and light). Some have also suggested Ultrabooks by Lenovo. I am not much inclined towards this brand but will still consider if they are indeed good.

Well, I was not recommending Vaio because earlier , in college, I had advised four of my friends the same. They bought the E series. 2 survived, 1 had motherboard failuRe and 1 had HD failure. Earlier I thought of Sony as a very trustworthy brand. My views have now changed. I was until currently using Hp but it got smashed on the floor. Apart from the heating issues and poor keyboard, rest was great.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience your friends had, but then I can say the same for HP, Dell, Apple Samsung and every other brand. All notebooks can fail, without any exception.

Anyway, I wouldn't suggest the Sony T13 simply because it uses 2nd gen i3 so Lenovo U310 is recommended :)
