I own a Dell Inspiron B 130 laptop with XP home SP3, 4-cell battery, 1 GB DDR2 RAM in two modules of 512 MB each and is almost two years old. Going for a new laptop is not an option right now. The manual says the memory is expandable to upto 2 GB, but I am not sure.

Should I go for a single 2 GB peice of two pieces of 1 GB each? Is there any other way to enchance performance besides regular maintanance (disk defrag, uninstalling unwanted prgs, cleaning temp folders etc..)?

It is always advisable to go for separate modules of 1gb each. If, in the unlikely event of one of them going bad, you laptop will run on the remaining one..

It is still not the right time for you to go for a laptop upgrade as XP SP3 is just perfect and should upgrade the RAM to 2 pieces of I GB memory.

Wait for some time as the next operating system from Microsoft Windows 7 is gonna released some during this Christmas holidays or January next year.
