Laptop for my Niece studying at IISER

Friends,suggestion wanted for a laptop(preferably lighter) for my Niece who had been admitted and studying at IISER,Kolkata.
1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)


Ans : Rs.35,000/-


2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?

• Netbook; 11" - 10” screen or less
• Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen
• Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
• Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

Ans : 14" screen,lighter. But never a netbook or hybrid,a full blown Laptop.



3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?


Ans : Generally surfing/browsing,seeking out info.
Project Reports.
Programming.
Videos/Music online.

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?

Ans : Intel core-i3(5th/6th Gen.)series is sufficient for her needs.
The laptop should be on the lighter scale as possible.


4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

Ans : Only from DELL or HP. Because my Brother-in-Law, her Father is only determined to use these 2 brands and none other else.He is paying.:winking_NF:


6) Anything else you would like to say?

• Screen resolution ( 768p (HD) / 900p / 1080p (Full HD) )
• Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs) / extended (5-7hrs) )
• Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, infibeam) / Local / Abroad (do mention the country) )

Ans : Nothing in particular. 1366x768 ,i.e., HD (768p) will suffice her requirements,as discussed with me over phone.
Battery back up of 4~5 hrs. required
Can be purchased from Flipkart or Snapdeal. But not from eBay.

Thanks Sayan,but you have exceeded the budget.
She is not a Gamer,hence no need for GPU based laptops.

It is on my way towards my House,wherein I had to configure Windows + download & Updates and make it a Dual Boot along with Ubuntu-16.04(LTS),preferably with "Mate" Window Manager.
Her Institution/College provides free wifi only to the registered admitted students.
