laptop cpu fan switches off when lid is closed

JB03

Right off the assembly line
I have an Acer 5742g laptop with an i5 processor. Whenever I am downloading something and I am not doing any other work on the laptop I close the laptop lid. This causes the CPU fan to switch off. When I check the CPU temperature using Speed Fan its is about 72 degrees Celsius whereas the normal temperature range is around 40 degrees Celsius. Can someone please tell me why this happens and how to avoid it?

it does not make sense.cpu fan does not switch off once started unless forcefully closed by some software & even then it depends on whether motherboard supports it or not.most likely closing off the lid is blocking exhaust vents causing temp to increase.some laptops have exhaust vent just around the screen corners.

Back to school!!
If you're using Win7 check system cooling mode under Power Settings>Advanced Power Options.

I am using the balanced power mode. I tried changing the system cooling policy but the results are the same. When i close the lid and turn the laptop upside down i can see the fan coming to a stop and not resuming its revolutions.
