Also consider this ASUS laptop. It has a much better display than Y50 but weaker GPU GTX 950M.

Maybe you should wait for the Y50 refresh a bit

All of 5th gen laptop CPU's will be dual cores with or without hyperthreading.
IMO 4th gen quad core i7s will still be a better option than buying a ULV 5th gen i7.

Rather than getting a CPU refresh, you should actually hope for a GPU refresh to 960M without a price increase.

actually after Ivy Bridge, there hasnt been a significant difference in performance(7-8% max to max)
only power consumption and inbuilt graphics have been improved

After the refresh, old 4th i7 will be at cheap :p

Btw CPU noob here, so i7 5th gen is less powerful than i7 4th gen? That doesn't make sense :/

^You got it wrong buddy. ULV i7s are higher clocked ULV i5s. Generations don't matter. Also some 2nd gen i3 (like 2350M) were better than 3rd gen i5s (the ULV ones).

The MQ and HQ variants of i7s are quad cores with hyperthreading while 5th gen i7s are dual cores with hyperthreading. 4th gen got 5th gen beat in raw processing power.

Some forum member bought a Lenovo Y50 in India with IPS panel. According to him, Lenovo refreshed Y50's screen. So, I'd get a Y50 with DDR5 860M instead of buying any laptop with DDR3 950M at a higher price. If required, I may extend budget and get a laptop from Azom or import one myself. I don't want to buy overpriced things.

A bit on the costlier side but you can consider this if you are not looking to import or not thinking about buying y50.

importing is the one option I have not considered. It's 16.85% customs and some 2-3K for shipping itself.

Did not know about Y50 IPS, will check it! Thanks for the tip. And yeah, even I don't want to buy overpriced stuff bro
