Lan card does not appear before restart

Lan card icon does not appear in my system tray after a cold start ( after a reasonable time) . I have to restart to get it. Otherwise working fine.
I have already changed my card to a new one & changed the PCI slot without result.
Running Windows XP Prof with latest updates.
Please help.

go to control panel-> network connections
right click on ur lan card
choose properties option
check the 1. show icon in notification area......
2. notiy me when............
