1. Type sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
2. Edit the menu.lst file which u'll find in /boot/grub/menu.lst
For this type sudo kwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst in Konsole Terminal.

You'll find something like this somewhere

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.10-5-386
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-5-386 root=/dev/hdb1 ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.10-5-386
savedefault
boot

title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.10-5-386 (recovery mode)
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-5-386 root=/dev/hdb1 ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.10-5-386
savedefault
boot

title Ubuntu, kernel memtest86+
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/memtest86+.bin
savedefault
boot

### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST

# This is a divider, added to separate the menu items below from the Debian
# ones.

# on /dev/hda1
title Microsoft Windows XP Professional

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit it so it looks this way:

# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux OS
# on /dev/hda1
title Microsoft Windows XP Professional
root (hd0,0)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader +1

title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.10-5-386
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-5-386 root=/dev/hdb1 ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.10-5-386
savedefault
boot

title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.10-5-386 (recovery mode)
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-5-386 root=/dev/hdb1 ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.10-5-386
savedefault
boot

title Ubuntu, kernel memtest86+
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/memtest86+.bin
savedefault
boot

You can set the timeout seconds here

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

## timeout sec
# Set a timeout, in SEC seconds, before automatically booting the default entry
# (normally the first entry defined).
timeout 10
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Replace 10 with 8 or whatever value u wish:)

SAVE these settings & restart!
These settings wil make Windows boot by default and will allow u to set the timeout seconds.

By the way, linuxquestions.org is the BEST place for u to post any linux related problems. For issues specific to Kubuntu, go to ubuntuforums.org

Hope this helps:)

Take care

You're welcome Vij:)

Vignesh I'd suggest u retry the installation. BTW did u have Fedora installed before Kubuntu?

Ya Fedora Core 4

Thats the problem! Format the whole thing and reinstall Kubuntu...if u want to retain home, format only root partition. Fedora is giving problems probably bcoz of selinux...
