i suggest u to to the website of the distro u are planning to install. there u will get whole step by step guide

If u have many machines then Using Kickstart u just have to configure one file (by default ksf.cg) and all machines will read this file for various system and hardware parameters. Thus u don't have to spend time on each and every machine. U just have to insert first cd of ur distro and give the desired command at the boot prompt of ur client and thats it, installation will get complete on its own.
