itunes doesnt show that my ipod is connected

^hi,
i did that and now it shows my ipod on itunes...i put some songs into it and now when i want to add more it says-
the ipod "nikhil's ipod" cannot be updated. the required folder cannot be found.
i've tried almost everything for this...but cant get around it...i have a feeling that this has to do with the lengthy name-nikhil's ipod...how do i get itunes to show me the screen where it was renamed ? itunes wont let me do it...it just tries to update my ipod when its connected and then shows that error and ipod is out of the devices list...

ok problem solved....i just restored it and renamed it "IPOD" all caps
anyway, what software u recommend for converting video for ipod?
