I still feel that if you are on a low budget, go for onboard. As you said, in a few years you will buy something topnotch.

The problem with the black editions is that they are often lacking in L2 Cache. You need atleast 4 mb of it to make your processor look good.

does anybody know any low cost AMD prosessors which have min 4 mb L2 cache and min 2.6 Ghz per core? with overclockability?

There is no AMD with 4 MB L2 Cache on it!

Even the new PHENOM has 2 Mb L@ Cache and 2 MB L3 Cache!

The only 4 MB L2 Cache are Conroes!

I suggest it is better to wait than buying Conroe for Penryn which has 6 MB and 12 Mb L2 Cache!

hey check out some AMD Athlon BE series. Its 65nm......resonably overclockable.

(But no guys have any good opinion about this)

My 8600GT 512MB DDR2 can play all the games (except crysis) at 1440x900 with everything max except shadows (which are switched to medium) and vsync turned off. I think it is vfm.

I have played bioshock demo and nfsps demo with all settings to max. (vsync off) but with crysis demo I need to lower the res to 1280x1024 with everything set to medium + vsync turned off + water effects and physics at high. The game is quite playable, no drop in fps. Just defragment your hd before playing todays games.:)

I cant get my hands on ut3demo :(

Yup thats true!

Penryn Cores are 45 nm FAB!
and Penryn quadcores are having 12MB L2 Cache and 1600 Mhz FSB!
Dual Core penryns will have the same config but with 6Mb L2 Cache!

Search the web for QX9650 Penryn...already benchmarked!

Though this processor is not 1600 FSB but the new QX 9770 will be for sure!

yeah for sure!

U know the X6800 was also costs same when it was launched!
But E6850 give better performance than X6800 and priced almost 75% lesser than that!
I m saying that not sufficiently it is advisable to only look for the QX9770 but there's going to be mainstream processors too like Q6600 and E6850 and E6750 as they are now!

So they really gonna bring some pain to the rival!

i was looking for a 256MB version what is the difference? and is the 512MB one DDR3 or DDR2?

Always look for card that has GDDR3 RAM.

256MB GDDR3 is faster (even double) than 512MB DDR2.

GDDR3, Graphics Double Data Rate 3, is a graphics card-specific memory technology, designed by ATI Technologies.

It has much the same technological base as DDR2, but the power and heat dispersal requirements have been reduced somewhat, allowing for higher-speed memory modules, and simplified cooling systems. Unlike the DDR2 used on graphics cards, GDDR3 is unrelated to the upcoming JEDEC DDR3 specification. This memory uses internal terminators, enabling it to better handle certain graphics demands. To improve bandwidth, GDDR3 memory transfers 4 bits of data per pin in 2 clock cycles

There was GPU roundup in October 2007 digit issue.

Found this awesome card ASUS EN8600GT. This was damn fast and churned more frames than 8600GTS, which were 10k+. The price listed in the magazine for EN8600GT was Rs. 8,800. You should be able to get this card for 6.5-7k easily.

There is one more model ASUS EN8600GT Silent (without fan, has silent heatpipe). This one is nowhere near to the one mentioned above.

If you can get ASUS EN8600GT with 512MB of GDDR3 RAM for less than 7k, go for it. You will definitely get stellar performace/price ratio :)

yes i know DDR2 and DDR3, but thank you anyway.
i wanted to know the price differnce between a 256MB and 512MB DDR3.

i looked many places for this perticular model, i too read the issue you are talking about. In bangalore i looked, in some places but did not get it. i will look again today and post.

thanks a lot

512MB 8600GT (XFX/ASUS) is not available at SP Road and owner of Railton said that he will get it by next month. He said it's not yet released in Bangalore.

The diff. between 512 and 256 MB versions og 8600 Gt is hardly 1500/-
