Is my crt failing me ?

This is with regards to my 17" samsung syncmaster 753s. Been noticing 2 strange things.

. occasionally, the monitor puts itself off and comes back again (within a couple of seconds mostly)

. i've been noticing some refreshing problems. (not sure if I have to call it that way). for eg, when on a gray or a darker background, i see shakes on the screen (or faint waves should I call them..) On a white background, its less noticeable.
The refresh rate is set to 85 hz.

degaussing did not help.. any ideas ?

im actually in the process of upgrading it.
My present config is amd64 3000+, asus a8n-vm, 1.5gb, 256mb 7600gs xfx

I dont think the gpu is the problem as the waves were not present when I interchanged with an 14" backup old monitor..

So, is it time to change the monitor ? How else can I judge the end of life of my CRT ?
