I dunno wat happened but one fine day my win Explorer stopped working.
I get the message "This program has performed an illeagal preation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

Try to boot in Safe Mode and if same error occurs - take a backup and reinstall 98.

I must say that it is the time to upgrade to XP because most of the softwares and even Microsoft are now stopping support and compatibility for Windows 98.

That Explorer Error can occur if a file named Comctl32.dll is missing/corrupt. You can replace it by following procedures here....

You have also said you expierence same problems with IE, these errors are may be due to trojans/spywares/viruses.
Do you use AntiVirus? If yes, update it and do a system scan in Safe Mode.

Also, download these tools and scan for Trojans/Spywares in your System.

Do you have any NewDotNet Client in your System, if yes, then go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and remove it,
