i have HP Pavilion with intel 915g M/B, & i want to upgrade the RAM from 256MB to 512 or 768MB.
the problem is that it says something about DIMM,

so what shall i do, go for a one 512MB RAM or two 256MB RAM?????

->Another thing is that at HP outlet a 256MB RAM costs about Rs. 2000+ /-

->whether the market price of HYNIX RAM (256) costs about Rs. 1000-- something.

So i want to go with the second option, is it safe?????????

Well .. 2*256 MB will make them run in dual channel ... but then again .. the 768 MB ram should be a boon for XP.. .. i'd say go for the 512 MB ram ...

If u want only 512MB ram on ur system....get another 256MB stick (of the same brand/model) and put them in dual channel.........

guys i'm looking for 512MB RAM Upgrade.

what i'm asking is ,
which is better option,
1) to go for 2*256MB RAM, OR
2) to go for 1*512MB RAM.

can i do the following without harming my M/B,
==>> shall i get ONE 256MB RAM & ONE 512MB RAM & install it in my M/B???

P.S. My current RAM is a "Hynix PC4200 RAM"

It is better to go for 2*256 MB RAM.

No,installing one 256MB RAM & one 512MB RAM will not harm your M/B.

1) Get 2 X 512mb or more and sell current module
2) Get 3 more 256mb modules
3) Get one more 256mb module

remember that all modules preferably be 100% identical in temrs of chips etc.

as asked above, I'M REALLY CONFUSED NOW.

this is the Specification of my M/B,

*h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docume...roduct=1125565&lang=en&docname=c00300057#N833

NOW tell me what shall i do?????

in that site, it says all these....about the Memory....

->Four 184 pins DIMM sockets support up to 4GB non-ECC 2.6V DDR SDRAM (Register DIMMs is not supported)
->Supports PC 2100 (266 MHz), PC 2700 (333 MHz) or PC 3200 (400 MHz) DDR-DIMMS

What does "Register DIMMsis not supported" mean??????

ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS ..

SHALL I BUY ONE 512MB RAM & INSTALL IT RIGHTAWAY OR DO I HAVE TO BUY1*256 OR 2*256 OR 3*256MB RAM

MY BUDGET ---- Rs.2500/-
Brand-- HYNIX . Currently installed--1*256 DDR SDRAM 400MHz PC3200.

If ur Mobo supports RAM in Dual Channel mode then go for 2*256 MB RAM in Dual Channel Mode. As tat will enhance ur system performance.

Dont be confused, jus put 2*256 MB RAM Modules in Dual Channel Tats it :)

Cheers n e-peace....
