Source: HTC HD2 gets Android NAND ROM, MeeGo 1.1 Install

Looks like HTC HD2 owners have a reason to party hard this new year's eve. HTC had launched this 4.3-inch behemoth touchscreen that runs the yesteryear's Windows Mobile 6.5 mobile on it. Now we have two separate updates that involve installing two different mobile Linux flavors MeeGo and Android. All those who wish to try out MeeGo and Android have a golden chance to do it at their own risk.

The HTC HD2 owners felt left out when Microsoft clarified that the phone won't get Windows Phone 7 update. However, that didn't matter much for the geeks who were busy spending day and night trying to port the Android over the HD2. The Android Community reported that XDA-Forum Member Cotulla posted details about DarkForcesTeam's Stock NAND Android ROM for HTC Leo aka HD2. All you need is a MAGLDR bootloader and the DFT LEO NAND Android ROM. Then you're all good to get Android richness on your HD2 smartphone.

In another separate update, Steve Straughton Smith Irish Developer for iPhone announced that MeeGo 1.1 mobile operating system was successfully loaded on his HTC HD2 smartphone. The instructions to install MeeGo 1.1 on HD2 are listed here. Installation of MeeGo 1.1 on HD2 was achieved by borrowing the kernel from Ubuntu for HD2 project. Do note that not every feature of the phone is functional but this is one step to the amazing project ahead.

HTC HD2 does have a snazzy 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB RAM to run Android and MeeGo mobile OSes smoothly on it. For those eager souls who wish to do more with their HD2, do read the necessary instructions before going ahead.
