Suppose you want to show the date in red color when it is say 30/7/2007. Follow along:

put your cusor in the cell which you want to format
enter the date separately(in this case 30/7/2007) somewhere on your sheet where there is less likelihood of its being disturbed.
Go to format>conditional format
select "cell value is" in the dropdown and select "equal to " in the next dropdown box. Lastly give the path to the date you entered in the second step. click the format button and give some color (there are many other things also you can do here).

That is all.

There may be other methods also.
