By default PHP comes installed with Apache server.... of course on a GNU/Linux system.... there shouldn't be any problemo... which distribution are you using ??

(for windows)just check out it should be on port 8080
and for linux localhost doesn't works(didn't in mine) but worked on 127.0.0.1
and to install php u can directly do it just configure the working server env.
IIS or Apache what ever working for u
