good original content will get you traffic that no amount of SEO can ever dream of
and also getting yourself on fellow blogger's blogroll is the second most important thing (backlinking)
but of course, people will add you to their blogroll only if they see good content appearing on your blog
so it all boils down to 1 thing only Good, Original content
people will talk about sitemap, but withut good content, no amount of sitemaps will help
