Hi,

I have a Dell Laptop with CDRW/DVD drive (TSSTcorp TSL462C).

Of late, the CD drive (D:) has got disabled and I see the below as Device status in the Device Manager:
A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Help available on Windows site for this Code 32 error doesn't seem to help me, as I do not have any UPPER / LOWER settings on the registry.

How has my CD Drive been diabled?
How can I get my CD Drive enabled?

Thanks in advance for the help !

Try the following.
My computer> right click> properties>hardware>device manager

There you will see DVD/CD drive> right click will give you options to enable it again

When you enable, it will ask you to to locate the driver, if you can find the new driver then install it else the old driver should also work.
Hope this helps.

Please note that the DVD/CD-ROM device itself is not disabled -- it is ofcourse in enabled status and so the right-click would give only DISABLE option.

The problem seems to be with the associated Driver / Service disabled ==> This Code 32 error is diplayed on the "Device status" section on the General Properties window of the drive.

I'm pasting the error message again -- A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

What is this driver / windows service that has been disabled?
How can this be enabled again?

I find that cdfs.sys service has been disabled -- Though I see the file in the drivers directory, it doesn't show up on the Windows Services list even.

Am I correct in assuming this to be required for any CD drive to functional?

How do I get this setup again, enabled & started?
