Hi guys..
I have a PC and a laptop both with onboard LAN. I need to connect these two so that I can transfer my files from my PC to my notebook. I have the necessary cable but when I connect them, nothing happens. Can you help me with it?

What do u mean by NECESSARY CABLE ???
You need CROSS CABLE to connect PC/Laptop directly with other PC/Laptop.
Is your cable CROSS CABLE ??

Most of the adapters these days have lights. When they are working, they blinks.
In your case, if they are not blinking, most probably you don't have cross cable ! :(

Assuming you have Windows, go to Control Panel --> Network Connections.

You will have LAN connection there. Go to properties.
And check the Show Notification when connected.

By this way, you can see the notification icon in the Taskbar when you have connected to other computer.

well i have chosen the option to acquire ip address automatically. and after a few mins the connection shows an error in my xp saying that windows did not allocate a network address to the pc or something like that. what if i manually edit the ip address? am going to try it now. any particular range of ips which i should chose?
