How do I change the audio codec?

Okay guys, as you might be knowing that I am already looking for changing a few rmvb files to a version or a format which my TV's can play (I have one samsung and one Sony LED) so I was just trying a few things and now something like this happened: I put my rmvb file in the pen drive and connected the pen drive to my samsung tv, it did not read the rmvb videos, but once I changed the extension from ".rmvb" to ".MPG" or ".MP4", my tv was able to read the video files and also understand its video codec but not the audio.

So my question is how do I change the audio codec WITHOUT CONVERTING my video using any video or audio converter? Just so that my TV starts reading the audio as well.

RMVB uses a video codec which is a version of H264 codec and most of the current LCD TVs can handle H264. But the audio codec is Real Audio which is a different format and can't be understood by most of TVs.

What you need to do is extract the audio stream, convert it to MP3 format and then Remux it with the video.

Use MediaCoder for this purpose. Add the video to MediaCoder list, set the Video Codec to 'COPY' and And Audio codec to MP3 with 144 Kbps Bitrate. Set the output format to Mp4. Now convert it. The output will be a MP4 file with H264 Video and MP3 audio. You can now play it on your LCD TV properly.

you cannot change the audio without using any converter & renaming worked because the TV supports the .MPG/.MP4 codec & not .RMVB codec which is by Real Media.

as for why audio was not working because audio is cook audio which is specially used in rmvb files

Hence,u have to convert the file to supported file type by your TV

Well the only reason why I don't want to convert using any converter is because it will take me a lot of time to convert as there are over 200 files.

@Cilius can you tell me the method which you have told, how much time will it take for converting each video to a compatible form and secondly is MediaCoder free or shareware?

He already told you about the process which you have to take to convert he audio to a compatible format. Mediacoder was a freeware. But now isn't. But you can get old freeware versions from here: MediaCoder -> History & Old Downloads | Software - Digital Digest

How much time will it take? You will have to test it by trying to do it with a single file first!

Well the only reason why I don't want to convert using any converter is because it will take me a lot of time to convert as there are over 200 files.

Yeah I agree that we can't always take short cuts but seriously converting 200 video files is hell of a task.

Secondly I tried what Cirius said and the time for the task is nearly as much as converting the video file, so I see no point in this procedure as well.

Since, the video is playable at your TV, you don't need to convert the video, just audio conversion will do. For a 1.5 Hrs of movie, the time for only video conversion at mp3 format is around 20 to 30 mins max.

BTW, MediaCoder is still free, it not open source now. Initially it was Open source too.

And I mention that while converting, make sure the Video Conversion mode is just COPY VIDEO and the audio conversion mode will have the Mp3 settings. In that case, MediaCoder or any encoder having this feature won't convert the video, it just pass the source Video stream and then internally remux it with the converted audio stream.

I have set the encoder setting to LAME MP3 and the format to MP3, somehow or sometime an error appears. So I think I will give this thing a pass. Thanks anyway for the help.
