In the zone
i happen to surf website of manchester united
*www.manutd.com/

there site is super fast ..and doesnt seem like internet....vidoes are like online tv...

so how are they managing that...

we our web servers are in US ...

so does that mean that they have replicated their site in indian server as well
how can we know from where we are being served...
ie if they have replicated ..from which server the data is coming...

if we repilcate our site in server of any asian country
will it enhance surfing speed for the asian or indian sub continent users

the server is hosted in the US only.. and its so fast cos they have a good amount of bandwidth.. thats it ;)

btw if we use a server say in singapore you would get a better response time like 50ms instead of 300+ms from the US servers.. so the site will be responsive but need not be fast (with video and other media stuff) if your hosting bandwidth sucks... a nearby server coupled with a good amount of bandwidth will provide gr8 experience..



EDIT: ok on looking it for a second time I just noticed 'akamai'... akamai is a distributed/cluster hosting solutions provider... they also host sites like engadget.com, ebay.in so yes they have a geographically spread server cluster which serves nearby visitors... you are somewhat correct in your assumption :D
