I just found out that when u buy your
6200s or 6800s and other budget cards which say "supported 256 mb"

then out of that Mbs there is little on the boards,the rest is shared from the system memory

SEE these links.

*techreport.com/reviews/2006q2/budget-gpus/index.x?pg=2

then how do we know how much is the ACTUAL mem on
the budget cards in india nvidia 6200 above and ati x1300 and above

The 6200 has a feature called TurboCache which uses system memory to add to its graphics memory. It is a well documented 'feature' of this card (and some others). Not sure about the ATi's though....

so since i got Nvidia GeForce 6800Ultra 256 .
its not really 256 in total at all ??

System Properties says I got 1.00 GB of RAM
DXDIAG says 1022MB of RAM

in DXDIAG Display menu -
Approx Total Memory - 256.0 MB

So well.. Im not having any problem since i got this card last yr in may-june.
Pagefile is 1.5 GB in my PC.

As for nvidia only the 6200 nd 7300LE has that turbocrap. It uses its own mem for fast access nd for storing the textures it uses the system mem. But its better if the cards own mem is higher. that is 256 on card is always betther than 256 turbocache.
@dhawald
6800 is not a budget card. Its a mainstream card.
