Help to convert wired internet to wireless

Hello,

I have internet on my laptop which comes through a LAN cable in my apartment. I have no access to the cable or DSL modem from which the other end of the lan cable is connected. I want to convert this wired internet connection to a wireless one. What do I need? I searched using Google and the results are confusing. Do I need a wireless access point?

Thanks for your replies to this trivial question. Actually I don't know the difference between an access point, a wireless modem and a wireless router.

which internet connection do you have?
I use tikona and have bought a NetGear wireless router N150 model WGR614.
just buy any wireless router and connect your ethernet cable to it and setup the access point ( with a user name and passphrase (nothing but password) for secured connection).

in your laptop,go to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and start the test
at the end of the test or before you can see the ISP provider
ex: bsnl, airtel etc.,

Do you have to login somewhere at first? or just plug the lan cable and you are able to surf/download?

I am able to plug the LAN cable and then able to surf. Anyway I will buy a wireless router and set up an access point. Thanks for your help.
