Help regarding buying a laptop

Hello,
I am a college student and I move around the campus a lot and also travel once a month. I am traveling to US this summer and intend to buy a laptop from there. I need a lightweight, sturdy laptop which can be taken around easily and is good for reading, browsing, Office applications, and once-in-a-while movie watching. I currently own a HP-Pavillion dv4 1242-tx, which is not very lightweight, has a poor battery life, and major heating issues. My budget is around 700$. Can you please suggest something.

Look for the thinkpad laptops from lenovo for robust use.. but they offer lightweight laptops for above 1200USD

But what are my options under 700$ if portability, battery life, office applications, reading and browsing are the major requirements...

For $ 700 you can own a relatively stable configuration. With the Dell or ASUS

and also acer travelmate (personally i dont recommend acer)
