Hi Guys ,

I need help with a Configuration for my cousin. It is mostly for her use for Word processing , database ,Internet browsing. Movie watching , Music and casual gaming will be other possible , occasional uses.

System will be mostly used with Windows 7 / Linux . Budget closer to 25 k will be great.

Please post similar configs with Intel and AMD setups .

Also what about desktops from brands like Lenovo , LG ? i know config features will be much less with higher price for such brands than assembles pcs , but after sales support and service is really important for her as she's beginner with computers (and kids are likely to conk the computer :) )

Ok the questionnaire :

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Home use - Word processing , Spreadsheets , Databases , Internet browsing , Occasional movie watching , music and very casual gaming .

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 25 -30 k . 30 k is absolute maximum. Cannot exceed it . Closer to 25 k will be best bet .

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:Nope . Never

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 and Linux

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500 GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Yes . 17 " or 18.5 " . If possible full HD resolution.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: None . Need full system including UPS

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Within three weeks

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will be done by assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Trivandrum , Kerala . Yes , buying locally . No online shopping .

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I know the proposed use doesnt warrant setups like Intel core i3 . but it wouldnt hurt to have a system atleast 2-3 years future ready even for such generic use. so pls keep that in mind . ie upgradable Proc + mobo combo.

Thanks :)

Thanks mate .

How abt swapping Intel g620 with core i3 2100 and skipping the GPU altogether ? gaming is very very casual . intel HD should be enough . whats the price for 500 GB HDD - WD / Seagate ?

Help with any similar AMD Setup , please ?

:)

^^Playing old titles you say? Then the IGP of i3 2120 will be enough. BTW I overlooked the HDD part while setting the config, intended to put the 500GB variant @ 4.1k. Will edit the config.
