as you not gave any idea about your display. lets assume its below 20" or max 20".

Proccy: Athlon II X3 or Athlon II X4 proccy: 3.5-5k
Mobo: Biostar TA785G3 HD or Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-US2H: 4-5k (don't pay more than 5k for that gigabyte board. market price is 4.5k)
Ram: Kingston/Corsair value ram. DDR3-1333Mhz 2X2Gb: 5-5.5k
HDD: WDC/Seagate/Samsung 500Gb HDD if you need @ 2k
PSU: FSP Saga II 400W or Gigabyte 460W @ ~2k (don't go for desi PSU or even cooler master power supplies)
Graphics Card: HD5670 512Mb/HD5750 or HD5770 1Gb from Sapphire/Powercolor/MSI: 5-9.5k
Cabby: Zebronics Bijli without bundled PSU @ 1.2k

Total: 22.7-29.2k. i didn't gave exact model numbers for all parts cause final product depends upon availability & upto what limit you can extend your budget.

@Cybertonic, your config not only overshoots OPs budget but also PSU & cabinet missing. to support GTX460, a Corsair 450W PSU will be needed. total cost will touch 35k (not 25,000 + a little more)

oops forgot about PSU,
btw i thought he's upgrading so he can retain his ODD and cabinet and why are you suggesting 785G motherboards when gigabyte 880gm-ud2h is available for 4.5k?

yes that Gigabyte much better choice than the one i recommended but thing is, it isn't so easily available. if found, i see no reason to go for 785G.

if you try retain old parts, you'll loose future upgradibility. so make a choice now. if you live in Mumbai, visit E.Lounge. i got my whole system from there (through courier, as i not from there). prices are descent (maybe less than what i pointed).

I suggest you just get a graphics card (HD 5750 for 7.5-8k). This should be enough for a 17" monitor (either 1280x960 or 1440x900) along with Pentium D 3 ghz.
