GT430 for low end gaming

I was looking for a graphics card around 4-4.5k (low budget indeed). I found that there are not many options from the recent lineups. One option I found was GT430. Although it hasn't been recommended as a gaming card by any reviewer, yet I see that it is a good bit faster than GT220 (which I was once considering but had dropped because prices over here were higher than other places). Now one of my friends is using 8600GT and and I see that for low end gaming, it still works. GT430 is around 2.5 times faster than 8600GT. So I think that GT430 should do well.

So what would you people advise about this? Are there any other options? And what should be the price?

Just for the record, I do not like first-person-shooters much (which are most demanding), my choices are more like prince of persia and NFS.
I have a 20" screen running at 1600x900
And I'm fine with a bit blocky graphics (i.e. without AA and low detail) as long as the game runs.

Never give up!!
but with the kind of resolution u have, ur this card might have to struggle !!
i suggest even if u can some how extend ur budget to 6k-6.5 u can get a decent card such as ATI 5750 which is a superb card for ur monitor resolution!!
but for the same price i suppose ATI 5670 is better !!!

You can get HD5670 for 5k which is hell lot better card compared to GT430

i was hoping I could get GT430 for around 4k. anyways, if the price difference between the two cards is less than 600-700, then I'll go for 5670.

Any plans for 66xx or 67xx cards from AMD?

Don't get a GT 430, it has worse performance than even GT 240 GDDR5 version. As a gaming card it is not at all recommendable. Get a HD 5670..I think the street price is lower than the online prices.

at low budget (below 4.5k strictly), GT240 1Gb DDR3 & HD5570 1Gb DDR3 are 2 good options. but adding that 500 bucks, performance takes a good leap forward with HD5670 512Mb.

i was hoping all the time that nvidia would launch GT440 which would be suitable both price and performance wise, but for some reason they didn't. Guess I'll go for HD5670 then.
would there be any disadvantage if i get gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2 instead of 880GM UD2H which i was originally planning? The cost saved on this mobo will allow me to get 5670 within my budget.
UD2H is Rs. 4200, X4 635 is 4200 and kingston 1333 Mhz RAM is 1100 (all prices including tax). So if I get 5670 for 5k, then that will make it 14500. I wanted to stay within 14k (apart from ~2.2k for FSP Saga II 500w).
Also would FSP SAGA II 400w be enough for this. I will get 2 GB more RAM later and will have 3 HDDs soon (2 normal, 1 green)

GA-MA74GMT-S2 is based on old AMD 740G chipset which does not support new gen Athlon II/Phenom II in fullest of the features. With a Phenom II/Athlon II installed its hyper transport link will be downgraded to HT 3.0(5200 MT/S) to HT 1.0 (2000 MT/S). Also it does not support minimum features of Oceing and missing Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC).
If you wanna reduce the price then go for Asus M4A78LT-M LE based on AMD 760G chipset available @ 2.6K.
Also one MSI 785G E45 or something is available @ 3.6K
