Graphic card for a old machine

I have a 2 years old pc wit p4 2.41 ghz and a 845 gigabyte motherboard [P4IM533GV]....I wann buy a graphic card for 2k only and i generally play games like age of empires and sometimes nfs carbon...I wann play the new version of aoe asian dynasties ......so plz suggest me a card for my requirement.....

2k? a bit less to buy a graphics card.. not that you wont get it but very less retailers have AGP cards in stock... (those are old-style graphics cards that will work in your PC, new PCI-E wont work )
bare minimum will be 6200 with 128 MB and 128 bit memory..

buy something like 6800xt with 128 MB ... will be best considering you have bit less to spare.. this will cost around 3800 new...

also better thing can be to look out for some good deals in the bazaar section of the forum *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=56
and post your requirements in 'I want' sub-forum...

Also check wether you have AGP slot in your motherboard or not.. some only come with PCI slots...

Best card you can get is a 7600 GT.

For 2k, all you can get first hand is a 5200 or at max, a 5500.

better go for a second hand agp..for 2-2.5k you may get urself a 2nd hand 7600gs...try posting a WTB thread in bazar section

7600 GT is best available but its wayyy beyond your budget...

Go for FX 5200 128 Mb 128 Bit if you cannot increase your budget... that will be able to handle all new RTS games @ low

new price of what ??? 7600gt agp ??? it will be close to 6k and for the gs version around 5k

AMD AM2 3000+
2*512DDR2 @ 667
6200 Geforce 256MB AGP.


what is the best card i can get?
budget is arround 5-6 grand.

You can get the 6600GT (4-5k I suppose) or the 7600GS (5-6k). The 7600GT is something around 7-8, but its the best AGP card available, try saving for that.

is there any 7900 for AGP?

all the games i play at 1024*768 can all the good games now be played at this settings with AA and AF on to some extent?

No, the last AGP card was 7800GS which is not worth a buy since its power is lower than the 7600GT.

I can't say about the comparision since 7600GT is obviously slower and lacks Direct X 10 support. So it depends on the scenario most likely.

if in bangalore i can sell you my card its a 6200 256 MB its a fan less card.
about 1 year old.
AND its been overclocked once, its still working though

no offense at all man.
its your hard earned money you have every right to know all the details.
as for the harm part i think it will harm. to what extent i do not know.
but the card is still working fine.

if you are going to upgread in 6 months i suggest that you save this 2K or so for a proper card.
