So naveen, you have officially become our forum's News Reporter ... keep up the good work..

GNOME 2.10 will take some time to sink down in the debian tree.. Will have to wait for sometime for updating gnome.

I would add to this :
The heavy window managers are for the "linux baby;s". Why ? Any serious linux user will find it a complet wast of scarce memory and cpu resources using such heavy overheads. These resources can be better utilised for other more productive use. These managers are ok to attract windows users to switch over or provide a more "easy" desk top enviorment for the people starting with linux.

erm.. pradeep thats how linux will grow,.. i mean if u want to aim at corporates for a switch over.. u need to provide user friendliness...

secondly... why wont geeks use gnome? i find that reason completely irrational that geeks wud luv the text stuff...

thirdly... u shud realize.. u were a newbie sumtime :p.. even u use Linux for the first time sumtime in ur life :p

man at the end of the day still LINUX sucks !!

its far too much complicated

even when they say this is the best user friendly LINUX all these distros do is remove the visibility of the complexicities in it

wht one wants is some genuine thing which wod stay for a while and is used by everyone

ok then one goes to the market to get LINUX distros

he asks the shopkepper, i want a linux distro

and the shopkeeper gives him a list of abt 40 distros :?

and these distro have abt 3-4 versions in themselves and theres a update every 2-3 months

inshort theres no life with one distro :x

Linux distros are like GIRLS you know one you know them all. Like Girls the outer looks/cover/makeup may vary internaly they are all the same (internaly means working/thinking no naughty thoughts intended). So select a girl mary her and thats it select a distro set it up and live with it. Make your distro pick and enjoy.

hmm

so now temme how many GIRLS have u tried yet

how are these GIRLS EXTERNALLY i mean the looks, the themes, the interface and the overall rating

and no wht do u mean by all GIRLS are same INTERNALLY ??

and ye SELECT A GIRL, MARRY HER ... but thats not it

a new version of the GIRL with some new advanced features is round the corner within say a few weeks and then DUMP the old and start flirting with the new and once u liked it legally dump the first and marry the new one again??

so this is wht u mean to say??

man wtf is this deal with LINUX no good driver support

to make devices work u need to make ur own drivers :?

i tried to start quake 3 in LINUX from a guide failed miserably

i havent yet been able to surf in LINUX coz every distro never accepted both the modems

god bless OPEN SOURCE and LINUX !!

I have been living with one distro 'Debian' for a couple of years. Other distros came and went like a crush, but i am commited to my gf,

Its not like Mahabharat ki Draupadi you see... (pun intended) :) As in Windows, there's just one flavour, and everyone's desktop looks kinda same no matter what city/country one lives in. Its just a matter of choice you know. If you are a born flirt then you'll definately flip your distro every now and then.

This is a plus point or negative point, that's for you to decide. With Windows, you can't even flirt like this. :)

Think again carefully what is the exact case? Does the distro not support your hardware or is it the other way round... The hardware manufacturer is not willing to make drivers for Linux.

If the hardware vendour is not willing to reveal the hardware details to be available freely to the device driver developers then how can the independent developers work? Ask your vendour why does he bundle only Windows version of drivers and not Linux version?

Think again whose fault is it? Is the community responsible for this situation or is the hardware manufacturer responsible for this? If vendour is ready to publish the hardware details then it wont take time to add support for that device in Linux.
