gaming rig for 40-42k

Right off the assembly line
Hi all,

I have been playing games on my modest laptop for a long time now with reduced settings whenever required, but with new games like battlefield 3,
mass effect 3 etc. coming up, that are very graphic intensive, i cant run them
even on all settings turned to minimum :( . So i have decided to buy a new gaming pc.

I am addicted to counter strike 1.6 and so the new pc should be able to run it on maximum resolution without any compromise. I know most of you will say that to play cs 1.6 no high-end or even mid-end pc is required but those who play it a lot will know that it is required. Anyways i also want to play other latest games like bf3, mass effect 3, and other upcoming games although that need not be in highest settings although the higher the better obviously :) .

I already have gaming mouse and mouse-pad and keyboard and speakers so please dont include them in the total cost (to be within budget).

I have never configured a pc before this, let alone assembled one before, so
please bear with me if i ask small obvious things repeatedly :p .

Thanx

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Gaming : Counter Strike 1.6 (max resolution without any compromise in fps at all), Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 40k ....can extend to 42k max

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 ultimate

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Yes, i need a monitor, it shud be full hd monitor and 21" at least

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: None, i dont have any components except mouse mousepad keyboard speakers

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: within 2-3 weeks (till end of may, or 1st week of june, 2012)

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: No, i have not done it before, so most probly. an assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: guwahati, assam....no problems at all in buying online......

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: -

thanx....its really nice.......i just have one thing in mind........GPU in 11k range
as you have suugested is HD6870......even GTX560 is in that range........is there
any particular reason to prefer HD6870 over GTX560........performance, heating or anything else......moreover if maybe a year down the line i want to upgrade my system by adding one more GTX560 in sli or one more HD6870 crossfire (if even it is possible).....which will be better performance wise if at present the single cards are equally good

thanx......

GTX 560 & HD 6870 both are good cards. However the Crossfire scaling of HD6870 is better than GTX 560 SLI.

Refer the below links.

1). Single HD 6870 vs 560

2). HD 6870 CF vs 560ti SLI HD 6870CF can give a very tight competition to 560ti SLI.

So stick to HD 6870 as of now. Get another when you need to most. But i guess, you need to upgrade your PSU to Corsair TX750 v2, if you have plans for CF or SLI in future.
