Using windows on external HDD and then running games on it would be much slower because of USB

If it's USB 3.0, you will have absolutely NO slowdowns

What about using a 16-32gb pd as a boot drive and using the Hdd to store games or vice versa.

I'm planning to use my western digital internal hdd through a casing, so are the casings available that have USB3?

I guess the PD idea can work, but it'll mean connecting one more thing to the laptop

Had another idea, some time back digit had featured a software that allows me to put some files onto a pen/hdd drive which then uses the windows installed on the computer and runs a version of windows for me that i can customize.

I read that win 8 has this feature called windows to go but that uses a crazy 32gb of space, plus win 8 is a pretty pathetic OS. Is there some way to do this on Win 7?

So a quick update, windows 8.1's windows to go works great. It even allows you to hide the primary disk so that you do not accidentally harm it. I used a win8.1 ISO and a tool called Aomei Partition Assistant to install it to the USB HDD. You can get the tutorial here

It is a little slow in accessing the drive (I have a USB2 enclosure) but will you will not see a slowdown in running games and apps. It's quite a lot of fun
