Galaxy star pro

I bought a Samsung galaxy star pro recently. As the phone is a low budget category phone, I thought it's speed issues were normal.
However with the constant lag I'm beginning to doubt that is the case. A friend of mine told me that the apps I had on it shouldn't be causing this much lag however low end the phone may be, so I wanted to ask you if I should either go to my vendor and change my piece (it's roughly 2-3 months old so the warranty/guarantee should be intact), or I get my phone rooted with a cyanogen mod?
Awaiting replies eagerly.
Thank you.

The galaxy star pro has crap specs. Its overpriced Samsung ****. The best would be to sell it and buy something better. You could try updating to latest firmware. I doubt you can get performance tweaks for that phone. Search on xda.

at best you can root and freeze some of the bloatwares, as custom rom isn't available for star pro. moreover using 2010's hardware, bound to happen. or sell it off, buy Android One/Moto E and experience android at its purest form.
