Galaxy Gio or good old Optimus 1 ?

Peak Oil is real!
If Galaxy Gio has been released and you can get it for around 11k, then go for it. Otherwise LG Optimus One is a decent choice.

There are some other choices as well... A member of this forum was able to get Galaxy Ace for 11.5k... that is an awesome deal. Then there is Dell XCD35 which also looks decent once you can install custom ROMS on it...

I have an Optimus One. It is a very good phone for its price. Not an iphone killer by a long shot... touch screen response is not satisfactory, but decent enough for a 10k phone...

Cheers!

Ace @11.5k...?? Whoa cool!! Would definitely look out for it.....do u remember about where he/she found it? Plz dnt say ebay :(

Touch response -another reason against O1, plus dust entering thru the buttons..

Just 1 more questn plz, :) would u recommend optimus1 seeing my requirements?? or better to go for samsung??

Thanx in advance :)

PS: cant find option to change avatar... :(

Other Samsung phones like Fit, Pop, etc are crap. Samsung Galaxy Gio is good... but as far as I know, it has not been released in India.

I like Optimus One. Complete value for money phone, especially after you install custom firmware on it...

Touchscreen is 99% accurate, but sometimes, it can be frustrating while typing or playing games which require accurate touch.

If you can really stretch your budget, then see Spice Mi-410 @13.3k on saholic.com after discount (code SAHOLIC1500).

Cheers!

Bond, Desi Bond!
Flipkart says that Gio is permanently discontinued. And univercell.in priced it at around 14k (excluding tax).

If camera is a preference, then LG O1 may not suit you as it doesn't come with flash and low light photography is useless.

If you can up your budget a bit more, you can get wildfire S which would be perfect for you.

Thanks droid and 007....
looks like not much point waiting for gio, with all the uncertainty

@desibond At around 14k, should I prefer Ace??Maybe I can get a buck off sumwhere....how much is wildfireS? Priceindia still says its expected in Q2 this year

@AndroidFan... What about Spice...the support, quality, upgrades n fixes etc?

Ok so here's what I think for now,
will check for prices of Ace, if I find it around 12k then will go for it, else O1 (not very flexible budget you see)....and please let me know about wildfireS too...what say...?

Sorry guys, must be irritating u....but m a novice, expert guidance always helps...

@RizEon,

LG Optimus One: good overall mobile. official gingerbread coming in a month. good resolution, battery backup is good, ton of custom roms to try from inc a few gingerbread.

but LG's official software (driver & the OS itself) sucks. comes with more bloatwares than any other mobile. camera is good under good lighting as desibond told but try to zoom & pics will get blurry. autofocus takes time. this maybe is the limitation of custom rom.

if you don't use camera & ready to go for custom rom, nothing beats O1.

HTC Wildfire S on the otherhand is more like an updated O1. H/W is the same but a few important features are added like Android 2.3 out of box, gorilla glass, 5Mp cam with flash, Sense UI. sadly for this HTC will demand you a hefty 4k or more. also HTC's trademark i.e. below avg battery. but i feel WildfireS will receive the next update which O1 won't receive for sure.

Galaxy Ace is worth the penny till you don't complain about battery going low very frequently. it should receive Android 2.3 update in a month. screen is good but resolution is slightly low but then you get what you pay for. it lacks custom roms for now.

also look for Acer Liquid Mini but won't advice to go for it. Acer is not your regular mobile company. update mayn't come soon or maybe never.

last option is Dell XCD35 but it also comes from a company that is more in PC&laptops then mobiles. but it has good community support.

Wildfire S does have a 5MP camera but the quality is not too good.
Wildfire S costs about 13k.
Ace will cost you 14k. Ace definitely has the best camera under 15k for an Android phone.

IMO Optimus One should be good for you.

@Sam the cam should be atleast average...not total sucker type... Isiliye toh i came here, else O1 is my first choice...
As Terabyte says, HTC cam nt gud either + 13k = :(

as for ace, well if its gud value maybe i wud try sum price hunting, what say?

Actually this is my first time into a 'real' phone..(been using nokias and then corbypro) so dont know much about customisation, rooting, ROM etc...m going by u ppls word on that matter

Option 1:
Id check the spice mi410. Its h/w specs are mindblowing for the price, a 1ghz snapdragon(only seen in 19k+ phones) a adreno 205 gpu(same as xperia play!!) 512MB RAM and a huge 4.1 capacitive touch screen.
Its very tempting :p but a little gamble, becoz havent been able to find any reliable reviews for it(or huawei x6) and well its 'spice'(or huawei :p ). Though customer reviews suggest its good.
If u are up for it, go for it.

Option 2:
Check the pricing on Galaxy ace. If u get it for 13k or less, go for it.
Mind u the battery life is pathetic,but the remaining features are good. The screen is bigger, but same hvga as O1 so more pixelated. Still its faster and better touch than o1.
Battery life cud improve wid custom roms,so get ready to get ur hands dirty.

Option 3:
Check if u can get wildfire s for 12-13k(I know it wont be, but still try). Ace is better vfm specs-wise but if u wont be experimenting with rooting and custom roms, Id suggest u go with wildfire S.
Reason is bttr battery life and UI. Screen is better, and it has chance it will be updatable beyond gingerbread. Besides that ace is better(faster,better cam,bttr h/w)

Option 4:
If above options fail,
Close your eyes,head to nearest reliable mobile shop, get the optimus one. It is most VFM android phone and is now available for less than 10k also! :)
U may not like the phone in stock firmware,it has a few scrolling and touch issues. But root it,install cm7 custom rom,some tweaks,overclock(optional) and watch it fly :p

o1's cam is absolutely basic. it have a ton of features. pic quality is good. but zoom in & you'll know what i mean. even a simple 2X zoom will degrade picture quality.

@guru_urug, very well told.

it maybe stupid to ask, but r there camera apps? As in wich make better use of the available specs...??

@sam

optimus me is small. only 2.8". experience won't be good.

@RizEon

The only reason Optimus One is VFM is because it has awesome developer support. Very few phones get this developer love.

Corby pro, corby plus, corby 2, star 2, wave, etc are all not worth it. You would only understand the difference after you have used an Optimus One for a few days.

Optimus ME is not recommended because of bad screen resolution, lower RAM, old processor and most important of all, no Developer support.

If your main priority is a good camera, then please consider Samsung Ace, Nokia C6 and SE Hazel.

Cheers!

^A friend of mine gives unhappy reviews of c6....said the phone reboots on prolonged use with multiple apps....

Okay, so first of all: go 2 a store n chek the cam, if its satisfactory(other stuff is topclass as u xperts said), buy the o1...else check out ace.... :) cool, eh?

I think he meant c6-01. Thats a very good phone and cam is also excellent. But I thought u wanted android?

Anyway galaxy ace has bad battery life, not sure if it wud last a day on moderate-high usage with gprs/3g.
So if u dont plan to use gprs/3g then it shud last for over a day. Best to ask somebody who owns it. There are tips/tweaks/roms to improve battery life. So u may have to resort to them

@guru_urug

the one with qwerty slider....

Gprs is major use yaar....m bigtime surfer,..par no issue with that...80% i surf while plugged in..

The thing is the multimedia/cam part is nagging me against o1.....
Do u knw the latest street price at the moment for ace?? Maybe it wud b a better choice, since m not a poweruser (though u nevr knw wat a nu os cn do to u)

one more thing, that spice 410, has anyone chekd the quality aspect? I mean with so much packd in, wherez the cost cut?
