I'm confused b/w doing engineering or architecture, I have few queries:
>Is scope of architecture as good as engineering, considering lack of interest of people in architecture?
>What salories do architects earn?
>Isn't similar to civil branch of engineering?

>What salories do architects earn?
I remember reading somewhere that engg get paid 20% more than architects..
Why don't you try something like structural engineering?

>Isn't similar to civil branch of engineering?
Architects mostly deal
interior and exterior design. It is more about planning of
the building to design of the building. Civil
engineer do the rest like, transportation
related, hydraulic, ventilation, heating
calc, structure calc, etc.

Architecture requires creative thinking. Engineering requires learning the basics and using it to logically arrive at optimum solution to a problem. Depending on your strength (creativity vs. logic building), you can choose.

Architect's role includes
1. to prepare layout of the building with position and size of various rooms.
2. planning the interiors, exteriors, ventilation, etc.
3. Coordinating with various agencies like electrical, AC, plumbing, etc.

In buildings like residences, apartments, commercial buildings, institutional buildings, etc... architects are in charge and civil (structural) engineers, electrical consultants, ac consultants and plumbing consultants work under them. Hence, they will get a higher pay. However, structural engineers work also on industrial buildings where architects have much lesser presence. In case of special structures like bridges, power plants, cement plants, etc structural engineers have a good pay.

Civil Engineering has many subdivisions like structural, hydraulics, transportation, geotechnical (Soil), environmental, etc... Currently in India, mainly structural engineering is flourishing but others are not so much. But specialists in the other fields of Civil also earn a lot once they gain the necessary experience.

PS: I am a structural engineer

^Wow! A structural engineer, that is so cool (reminds me of prison break:Micheal Scofield).
I asked to several architects which were in contact with my dad (executive engineer), they said B. Arch is great and requires a lot of work. It does have lot of drawing work but majority is done in CAD. Architects are paid much less in starting but the pay keeps on increasing with experience and it easily get respectable in couple of years. Architects also have good scope in foreign countries.
I'm hoping to get SPA, Delhi cause the architect I talked to said if I get into it, I dont need to worry about anything. If not I'll go to NIT Calicut or BIT Mesra.
Being an architect seems promising. I was nervous and confused intially mainly cause all my friends are rushing to engineering. I'm going to be the only architect in my friend circle. Guess I'm taking the road less travelled.

^^ absolutely correct. I understand payscale is very much necessary in Life but not most if you can't enjoy life and if you choose some filed because of money and not passion you will never succeed as you are not interested to spend much time on it..

well to topic my younger bro is doing B.Arch he is in third year.. I believe India it self has big scope for Architects as every one wants some good house and interior.. well it's not like before when people just get satisfied with just 4 wall that they can say house..
