Can anyone tell me about any free & reliable partition manager which *actually* does something and not like the demos of the big names which only let you play with the interface and do absolutely nothing.
Even a trial version would do but it must work.
My needs are basic and i am not looking for advanced features.

Try BootIt NG. It is trial only if you install it, but if you run it from the floppy or CDROM, it easily resizes, formats and back-ups partitions.

You can use the Partition Manager that is windows itself... Type gpedit.msc in the run prompt

Yes, it can create partitions. You will have to resize your existing partition (make it smaller) first, only then you will be able to create one.

Be sure to defragment your HDD before you boot using it.

Use Extended Fdisk

first delete the Linux Partations and then creat new out of them
