BULB GLOWING FROM PAST 100 YEARS

A Light bulb is burning for 100 years.
It hangs at a fire station in Livermore, California (4550 East Avenue). The bulb, which burns at four watts with a heavy filament, was made by the now defunct Shelby (Ohio) Electric Company. Lynn Owens is the retired Division Chief of the Livermore Fire Department and Lightbulb Centennial chairman. The also features in third edition of Ripleys Believe it or Not, Also Guinness World Records 2007 has included the bulb as the Longest-Burning Light Bulb!

To monitor the bulb and to show it online to us, a camera is installed there. The camera captures snaps every 10 seconds and the same is shown online.
Unlike the bulb, the first camera had a limited life of about 3 years. We are hoping this one will give the bulb a run for it's money. :-D

I think Mr.Thomas Edison has engulfed the bulb and wanna prove that his invention can't be beaten! :-D

The Devil
Thomas alva edison was a cheater. The greatest inventor was Nikola Tesla, whom THomas Alva Edison crushed through use of politics and power. Just do a google search on Nikola Tesla and read about his works.

I mentioned that on a light note becoz till date all schools still teaches that 'Thomas Alva Edison invented the Bulb'.

On a seroius note, yes. You are right. Thomas Alva Edison did not invent Electric Bulb. The sentence itself is misleading. A bulb consists of Filament.
He actually invented a whole system of electric lighting. Not Electric bulb as a whole.
He tested thousands of materials to use for the filament. All went invain. Nothing seems to work. But then oneday he tested carbonized cotton thread filament. At first it turned red and after some time it started glowing brightly and started emitting light. He produced a bulb and started marketng his new invention. Later on the material was replaced by Tungsten for manufacturing filaments.

uhmmm.. yes...
Joseph Swan, a British inventor, obtained the first patent for the same light bulb in Britain one year prior to Edison's patent date.
Edison, on the other hand, has invented the electric incandescent lamp.
When he brought it to mass-production, he had famously (and truly) said, "We will make electricity so cheap that only the rich will burn candles."
And to think of it, it stays that way even today. *img116.exs.cx/img116/1231/z7shysterical.gif

Why don't Indian Company made bulb/tube lights using such technology, or at least can make which will work for 10 years.
