Broken In
The computer in our college boot very slow, the welcome screen appear for around 3 minutes. The computer configuration is 40 gb HDD, 128mb ram, running on windows XP pro with sp-1. Two weeks back the computer was infected with over 300 viruses which I got cleaned with McAfee. Everything seems fine now but it takes very very long time to boot and start the computer. I have done most of the XP tweaks like disabling unused services, auto-update, start-up items etc but to no avail. Please help.

try a clean install... its best solution for such situations
if you dont want to reinstall, then try Repair option in booting WinXP CD
there are lots more options .
though you seem like an advanced user, it may be possible that you have overdone the maintenance stuff.
stick to the basics like defragmenting, diskcleanup and recommended spyware system maintenance applications which are lite
remove unwanted applications and run a registry check in spybot
