HELP AND SUPPORT
Microsoft has released a new application, "Private Folder 1.0," meant for storing private documents and files, and protecting them with a password. According to Microsoft, Private Folder 1.0 hides data from the hard drive, and protects it with a password.
For installing the software, the user has to verify his/her Windows application as "genuine" through Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage Program. Once the software is downloaded and installed, an icon called "My Private Folder" is displayed on the user's desktop.
Private Folder 1.0 is available for free download on the Microsoft Web site. The new software runs on Windows XP Home Edition, Professional Edition, or Media Center Edition with Service Pack 2, and requires a high-resolution Super VGA video adapter and monitor to work properly.
Microsoft says its Private Folder 1.0 is a useful tool to protect private data, when friends, colleagues, kids, and others, happen to be sharing the same PC or account.
