Each WD Internal drive getting bad sectors after some days!!!

Hi,
I have very strange problem. Every WD internal drive is getting bad sectors just after 5 - 10 days!!! In the last 6 months, I have received 5 - 6 replacements and every drive failed after some days. I have mentioned some points that could you help you in the case...
- Drive temperature reaches to 40+ degree Centigrade after just 4 - 5 hours of usage!!! I have placed the drive outside of the cabinet. And outer temperature (in hyderabad. this time weather is cool here) is not more than 31 degree centigrade.
- After reaching to peak temperature like 42+ degree centigrade, computer almost hangs and restarts.
- Drive doesn't get detected sometimes in BIOS!!! Eventually it starts detected again.
- When I started PC with UBUNTU, its disk utility is reporting some bad sectors on this drive.

Motherboard I am using (Intel DG31PR Motherboard):
Newegg.com - Intel BOXDG31PR LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Processor: Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80557E6550

I am not able to understand where can be the problem. Is it SMPS, cable or motherboard?
So if it comes to decision for changing the board, which board I should go with? Should I buy/search for the same board on the net or some other board? And what I should look for in a new board for compatibility otherwise it will be a big headache if I order wrong board online. People are suggesting for board that supports DDR3 rather than DDR2. Please advise.

Thanks,
sHAILU

placing drive as such outside without any casing is a bad idea.~45-49C is normal hdd temps in Indian conditions & should not pose any problems(speaking from own experience).my first guess is bad psu.use a good one like corsair VS450 at least(costs ~2400).

I agree, reasons can be PSU also.

Please check one by one,

  • GOOD PSU
  • Good UPS (to make sure there is not much voltage fluctuation happening
  • Replace the SATA cable (some time that too can be the reason)

I am already using UPS. And 40+ temperature can be normal but reaching at that point in a 3 - 4 hours only can't be normal when outside temperature is not more than 30.
Are bad sectors possible due to faulty cable/faulty psu?

Thanks a lot.

PSU is definitely a prime suspect.

and personally I have faced this type of issue due to cable faults too..

i have experienced sata cable fault issue many times & it will result in ultraDMA CRC errors(can be checked in S.M.A.R.T values table).as for temps even in winters when here in Delhi outside temp drops to ~10C running pc for 3-4 hours will easily result in ~35C temp for hdd.

No ultraDMA CRC errors in S.M.A.R.T values. However "current pending sector count" is showing warning:
Normalized:200
Worst: 200
Threshold:0
Value: 5 sectors (earlier it was 3 sectors only)

Thanks.

Its a terrible thing to happen. Although my PC is old(Zenith System) for 9 years the one thing that never gave me trouble is my HDD(40 GB IDE from WD which I noticed after 5 years or so). So in my next new PC, its going to WD again only this time its 500 GB sata.

P:S- my old system is running on local PSU(for last one year odyssey because where I live normally quality product are very very less concerning PSU, Cabinet, GPU,RAM).But for my new system, its going to Corsair CX430V2 which I had asked my brother to bring from New Delhi although my PC buying is delayed for at least one month now.
