DVD-R Dl Not burning with nero

Well i am new to dvd burning stuff.
I just bought a lite-on dvd writer and a dvd-r dl dvd for backing-up my files.
I am using nero's latest 7 version and to my horror it keeps giving the error that you need dvd+r dl or dvd+rw for writing this dvd.

But on the lite-on's box it says it supports this format.plz help.

Check that ur writer supports Dual layer writing capacity. Many drives dont support dual layer writing.

Check with Nero InfoTool, whether your writer supports DVD-R DL or not.

Maybe the writer only supports DVR+R DL and not DVD-R DL which you are trying.
