DVD initialisation problem

hi everybody

i have brought a new system

well i have run into some little probs

case:

i had installed a PCTV tuner card ...

even after installing the driver of (pinnacle) it was throwing the message :
"hardware initialisation failed "

so i unistalled the driver (intending to re-install it again ) and restarted the sys ...

but when the sys was booting up (the win XP screen was visible) i loaded the driver
cd onthe DVD drive tray ...

and bingo after that my dvd drive is not being detected :(

steps taken :

1 tried to use the control panel -> add hardware -- but it didnt work (it said device not detected)
2 have restarted the PC but no results :(

so my intelligent friends tell me what to do now and how to go abt it ...

check whether the DVD drive is being detected in the BIOS . if not , open your cabinet and check for loose FRC cable or power cable . if the drive is being detected in the BIOS , restart windows and press f8 key while windows is booting . and when you are presented with a series of options to boot and select the boot last known good configuration . this should solve your problem . if this doesnt solve your problem let me know . ill tell you what to do further .

Hi Digitizen,

i simply tried what you had told me to ...
my BIOS was setecting the DVD so i simply booted my machine in F8 mode and selected the last best settings

and bingo !!! it worked fine :)

i am very very thankful to you

I too have a bit of the same problem, my drive sometimes turns to PIO mode from UDMA mode automatically, so I mount some other drive on that controller and after one boot I turn it on again back to normal and it turns to UDMA mode automatically !!!;-)
