in amd 880g chipset specs it is written that it supports directx 10.1, does it mean that we cannot install directx 11?

I'm not so sure what you meant by installing DX11.

You can not install Dx11 on Xp - only vista SP2 supports DX11 installtion through update and windows 7 comes with DX11.

You can install windows 7 which have DX11 without any issue.

^^ True but maybe OP is asking if games will run in DX11 mode or not. So the answer is no even if DX11 is already installed (if you are using Win 7), your games will still run on DX10.

880G Chipset.

HD4250 integrated graphics processor. 10.1 Dx complaint. Cannot run Dx 11. The board has a PCI.Ex16 slot. Any Dx11 card can be placed here, and will be complaint.

@OP

It means the IGP on the motherboard which is HD 4200 is DirectX 10.1.

If you'll buy a DirectX 11 card like HD 5670 and use it, then you can use DirectX 11.
