As far as I know, Gmail by itself doesn't allow read receipts if you access your mail via an internet browser. You can ask for a read receipt if you're using an email client; eg: Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, et al. It still requires the recipient to acknowledge it for you to know.

only email system allows it is rediffmail... as soon as some one reads u eamil sent from rediffmail with the option return receipt turned on... when the user reads ur email... autometed response comes back to u...
